Our philosophy is simple: we make the bike fit you - not the opposite.
Fit is by far the most important, yet most neglected, dimension of cycling performance. Regardless of wheels and equipment, if your fit is inefficient, less power is going to the road or the trail. More importantly, a compromised position on the bike may lead to nagging pain, or even worse, injuries that cost time and money.
Professional fitting is not just for professional athletes or serious amateurs. If you have a road or mountain bike, enjoy riding often, and are interested in getting the most out of your equipment, chances are you will benefit from our fitting services. Although suffering is an integral part of our sport, pain is not. Saddle numbness, hand fatigue, shoulder pain, neck pain, and other “hot spots” are absolutely not normal parts of riding a bike.
Plan on spending 2 to 3 hours at Spin for your fit. A large portion of our time is spent assessing your morphology and interviewing you to make sure we are fitting towards the same goals. In other words, the position and bike choice for an age-grouper triathlete is going to be far different than the position for a 20 year-old mountain bike racer. Getting your equipment to a “neutral” fit is the easy part - achieving your goals through fit is the challenge. Our process is highly individual - although the theories and measurements are the same, the end result is very different for each and every athlete.
Unfortunately, there are many “fit” systems on the market that either don’t work, or leave you with information that is proprietary and difficult, if not impossible, to use in the future. Most importantly, our process is dynamic. That is, we fit you while you are actually on the bike pedaling - static measurements of body dimensions don’t transfer to actual on-the-bike position. Sure, they are easy and quick, but as the saying goes, “you get what you pay for.”
Our fit system is a combination of three reputable theories all taking a different approach to dynamic fit. The end result is the same, but the executions are slightly different. Each theory has its merits, and our process attempts to combine the merits of each into a package that is highly integrated and beneficial to you.
