Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 18th. The idea is to promote bicycle commuting as a viable and enjoyable way to get to and from work. The benefits of this activity are many, including reducing your carbon footprint, saving money on gas, and building in some exercise to your day to day routine. Given the distance many of us drive, and the traffic we encounter, the time it takes to ride isn't all that much more than the time you burn sitting in traffic, anyway. In many cities, it take less time to ride than to drive.
Spin is supporting this initiative by making ourselves a rendaevous point for people to gather and ride in together if they choose. We'll have someone at the shop by 7am to provide free basic mechanical support, coffee and baked goods, as well as offering a 15% discount to commuters between 7am and 9am, then again between 4pm and 6pm.
Others in the cycling community have similar initiatives, all aimed at making your first (or just your most recent) commute easy and enjoyable. Check out the Facebook page listing the various participants!
Leave the car at home Friday May 18th! (and every other day, too!)
Women across the nation are gathering to enjoy a ride together and celebrate women in cycling. Join us on Saturday, April 28th for road rides on your local streets. There will be breakfast snacks and refreshments, a flat tire repair clinic, and more. We'll have three different road ride groups of varying distance and ability. Join us for a day of free fun!

This Wednesday the BMC Demo Truck will be at Spin!
We'll have size runs of their best road and mountain models, and shuttles running to the Ohio Erie Canal Mountain Bike Trail at 1:30pm and 5:30pm, as well as road bikes for the regular Wednesday Night Road Ride at 6pm. Unreserved bikes will be free to go out at any point of the afternoon, too.
Call the shop (216-521-7746) for details and to reserve your bike. Thinking about a new BMC, or just want to ride a sweet bike for a day? This is your chance! The weather will be great, so give us a call and come on out!

Last weekend, a contingent of racers from Team Spin, SSSMST, and Spin Bike Shop's Mountain Bike Team travelled to Georgia to take part in Southern Cross the finale of the American UltraCross Championship Series. The course was brutal, with over 6200 feet of dirt road climbing in 50 miles. For added fun they began and ended the course with a ridiculously hard cx style course.
Most of us just went for the fun of it, although Greg Jackson (shop owner) was vying for the series overall. As it turns out, he ended up taking second in the series! Not bad for a washed up pro!
Chip Meek turned in a great performance, earning a 3rd place finish in the single speed class in what was a very close race. Someone must have neglected to tell him about the hour long climbs, or 20% grades, because he elected to do it with a 42/20 gear combination. Sick!
